PCLOS 2010 on a Mac Mini
« on: April 17, 2010, 12:37:08 AM »
I have been trying out the 2010 beta 2 on my Mac Mini. It is a Core 2 Duo 2.0 GHz with nVidia 9400m Graphics. I found several articles http://www.brighthub.com/computing/linux/articles/34826.aspx on the web saying that rEFIt http://refit.sourceforge.net/ was needed in order for Linux to work with the EFI that the Mac Mini uses. The article that I linked above is dated March 2010 but I am wondering if that is outdated information. The 2010 beta Live CD runs OK booting directly to the CD bypassing rEFIt which I have installed on that Mac OS-X 10.6 hard drive. Can anyone with more knowledge confirm for me whether or not I need rEFIt?

Thank you!
Dave

n8oay,
Did you get PCLOS up and running on your Mac Mini??
Most people I know just use VMware or Virtualbox. But then you don't get the full speed, memory and power of your computer that way.
Anyway that 'How to Dual Boot' is great I archived and bookmarked it.

You have to use rEFIt. I could not get PCLOS to set up Grub to pick up OS-X. I installed rEFIt and tried again and got PCLOS to run, but it did not run right. I had problems with a lot of things. The mouse was very erratic, Linux could not find my external hard drive or the internal DVD burner and other stuff. I gave up for the time being. I may go back to it later.

That's too bad. I've been looking into getting a Mac Mini. Sounds like the best option is to run it in a virtual machine. I wonder if you might have better luck with another distro.
Would love to hear about the results if you do end up giving it another try.
