Hi basu_unix - big welcome to the forum.

Can you please tell us a bit more of what is happening.

Can you boot the LiveCD and get to the main desktop okay?

What error messages are you getting?

Which version of PCLinuxOS are you using - is it the KDE one or the new LXDE version?

Have you carried out an md5sum check on the iso you downloaded?

Have you carried out a media check on the CD you burnt?

What are your system specs?

What exactly do you mean by "it will come out" ?

If you can provide some answers to those we may be able to pinpoint your problem.
PCLinuxOS 32bit KDE 4.10.1; kernel-3.4.11-pclos1.bfs & 64bit 3.2.18bfs; NVidia GeForce 8400GS 1GB 310.19 driver

Menotu:
Where is the version info located? What is the KDE or the new LXDE version? Where is that info?
How do you "carry out" a md5sum check?
What is a media check? Where is that located? How do I carry it out?
Where are the system specs found?

I've burned 4 iso disks now and they all stop on the main desktop.
The installation tells me I am logged in as GUEST.
On some of the installation attempts I've been told to login more than once by "Local Host" Should I switch to "root"?

None of the buttons work once the desktop is reached, but the mouse does work.

(I've written to you previously in "software".

You can tell the version of KDE by the iso you are burning, example pclinuxos-kde-2010, has KDE4.4.2, pclinuxos-kde-2010.1, has KDE4.4.3.
To run the media check, it is located on the LIVE-CD right as you boot it, it is a option on the menu.

Thanks. I got the Media Check. It was good. The installation went as far as letting me select INSTALL - after I logged in as ROOT -  then a white box appeared in the upper left corner of the desktop with a small label "Install Drake" and the program locked up again.

This was my 4th ISO disk and about my 25th effort to install.

Install drake is trying to install a peripheral on your machine. I get printer-drake, on the first boot after install. You might consider posting what hardware you have. That way someone with more technical know how might be able to help you. ;) Another question is, when you run of the LIVE-CD do you have any problems, I mean does everything work, your sound, your internet connection, etc?

I agree, in particular it would be good to know how your hardware stacks up against the following PCLOS 2010 specified minimums -

Processor - Any Intel, AMD or VIA processor.

Memory & storage - RAM : 512 MB minimum, 1 GB recommended.

Hard disk - 3 GB minimum, 8-10 GB recommended for a full setup.

Video card - nVidia, ATI, Intel, SiS, Matrox, VIA.
3D desktop support requires a 3D instructions set compatible card.

Sound card - Any Sound Blaster, AC97 or HDA compatible card.
Creative Labs X-Fi cards are not currently supported.

Other - CD drive required.

SATA, IDE, SCSI, SAS - most controllers are supported in non-RAID mode.

Hi All,

Thanks for your immediate response. I have tried to install following versions of PCLINUXOS 10

               1) PCLINUXOS 2010   Latest KDE Version.
               2) PCLINUXOS 2010   Latest Gnome  version
               3) PCLInuxOS 2010   Zen Mini Desktop.
               4) PcLinuxOS 2010    LXDE

My system configuration is AMD Athelon Processor, 1GB RAM,

I am able to boot LiveCD and in Live CD mode, system works fine. But when I tried to install, Installation will start and It will format hard disk. After 5 -10% of installation, Installation will hang(stuck). No buttons(mouse click) will work.

I have checked MD5 sum, It was correct and Media check was also OK.

I am trying since 15 days but was not able to install PCLINUXOS 2010. Whereas PCLINUXOS 2009 LXDE will install within 15 minutes. I tried to upgrade PcLinuxOs 2009 LXDE but could not upgrade.

Could someone help me in solving this problem? Please let me know what is reason for this?

Thanks in Advance
Basavaraj

Your quite right - 2009 doesn't upgrade,

As for your 2010 install, would you be able to download GParted LiveCD and burn that to CD and format your disks prior to the 2010 install? If you setup your partitions with GParted you should then be good to go.

Of course, remember to backup your data first  ;)

GParted on Sourceforge states:

We recommend GParted 0.5.1 or higher for all partition editing operations.

CAUTION:   Partition editing problems can be experienced using
                    GParted (<=0.5.0) with newer GNU/Linux kernels (2.6.31+),
udev (138+), and parted (1.8.8+ up to 2.1 inclusive).
For details, refer to the following forum post:

Format your partitions as ext4. Be sure you allow enough space -- at least 10GB for / (root). Have a separate /home partition. Create a swap partition. Be sure it is big enough.

You could try LXDE-Mini-2010.
http://nbrks.com/pclinuxos/iso/pclinuxos-lxde-mini-2010.iso
http://nbrks.com/pclinuxos/iso/pclinuxos-lxde-mini-2010.md5sum

It should install fairly quick.
*Note: This is a 'mini' and does not have all of the apps the full version does. However installing what you want / need from Synaptic is easy.

After installation, you can add other DEs through Synaptic by choosing its "task" package. For example, task-xfce installs the XFCE DE.

One thing you could do is download Parted Magic is about 40 mb and then burn it to a cd. Here is the link to go find it: http://distrowatch.com/?newsid=06005

Instead of using the install icon on the desktop, try starting the installer from a terminal (Konsole) and when it hangs, if it does, take a note of the error/s and post them back for others to look at. They may indicate what the problem is.

regards.

I use Parted Magic, when I need something other than diskdrake. It is easy to use and has the newest gparted.

Try leaving it on overnight. For me diskdrake took a long time to do its job. Initially i thought it had crashed.
Packaging well will cure headaches of many :) But learning to package will cause headaches in many :(
