Some games not launching
« on: May 17, 2010, 01:25:36 PM »
I've installed several games from the repositories ,some games launch fine but others such as frozen bubble and domino's won't launch .Is there something I can do to get these games to launch? I tried reinstalling but same thing happens. I was able to get frozen bubble thru djl to run but my screen goes black around the game window.

what video card do you have and what video driver is using?

verify that information in pcc/hardware/setup the graphical server

some games won't work well with kde desktop effects or compiz fusion so you could try to disable those before running the games

I tried shutting down desktop effects to no avail . I have an integrated intel 945g graphics card . The games worked before I installed the 2.6.33.3 kernel bfs. could the kernel upgrade cause a problem with launching some games?

yes it can, try the pae kernel or the basic kernel

sometimes after a kernel change you need to verify your video settings in pcc/hardware/setup the graphical server, just reenter the information you already have

I tried all the above still a no go. If there was a problem in the graphical server shouldn't all games refuse to launch rather than just some of them?

some games uses the opengl extensions and others don't, not all the games use the same resources, frozen bubble is one of them

Hi Rob,

try and open a terminal and start frozen-bubble with the command:

frozen-bubble

and paste the messages you (presumably) get here,

cheers,
