I would appreciate it very much if someone could explain ,what is meant by a "clean install ",and how is ot executed.

a clean install completely wipes the previously installed system, including /home.   both / and /home are formatted during the install procedure.

In addition to Jaydots post please remember to back up any data (docs / pics / movies / music etc) you may have in your /home partition.

When you have your new OS installed and setup as you wish, you can then move your data back to your new install.

Be careful of re-applying any "old" settings you may have coz they may not work properly in 2010.
