unable to install SOLVED
« on: May 13, 2010, 01:34:31 PM »
I am trying to install from the live cd and I have two hard drives, have XP on one and when I select the other one for the installation of PCLinuxOS it says I have to reboot to enable the selected one. I reboot and start again and get the same thing. I'm getting dizzy.

That's pretty vague. Could you please add more details? When do you see the message, and what are you doing at the time, that brings up this message?

I am running the live cd, and when I click on the icon to install to my hard disk it gives me choices of drives to install the system to, and I select the one I want and this is when it tells me reboot.

Still too vague. You have to go through selecting a partition to install on and formatting, etc. There are choices to be made, the first being the type of installation. Are you selecting any options? Can you give the exact message you see?

How is the drive you're selecting formatted? ext3? ext4? Something else? What is installed on it at present?

Is it even partitioned, or formatted?

I select the drive to use, then I select "erase and use entire disk"

Did you set up how you wanted it partitioned? Did you choose the formatting to be used?

No. Never done it in the past, so didn't bother. The selection I mentioned always worked

Did you do an md5sum check on the image first, then the burned CD? Seems like somethings wrong with the disk. It should have at least done the partitioning, before telling you to reboot the first time, then the second time read the partition table and been able to install to the partitions it had made.

Then again, did you try using any of the other options, like Use Existing partitions, or Custom?

Tried once more with same options and it went OK.
Thanks
