Color Selection on Desktop
« on: May 12, 2010, 10:42:05 AM »
I have just installed 2010.1 and all seems to be fine.  I have pretty much everything working as I want except for setting the color scheme on my desktop settings.

I am trying to set the Active and Inactive Title Bar colors.  I can make the selections on the appropriate lines and they appear in the sample area on the right side.  But when I click Apply, nothing happens.  I can change the settings on the Inactive tab of the screen and those settings work after I hit Apply.

I have tried saving these settings as a separate scheme.  I have tried selecting different Styles before going to the color settings, but nothing seems to work.

I am probably missing something, but have no idea where.  Can someone offer some pointers?

Thanks.

Goto:
Configure Your Desktop > Windows > Window Decoration
Change Oxygen to Plastik or one of the others and Apply
You should have colors show in the title bar and be able to change them.

Thanks for the info.  That solved my color problem.

I spent over an hour last nite looking thru the Configure Desktop options to find a way to change the sounds used for various warnings, etc.  Can anyone help with that?

Also, I was looking for the settings on the panel (I believe that is the correct term) across the bottom of my screen.  The default settings are so transparent that my wallpaper shows thru and makes the panel nearly unreadable.  I have seen the Panel Options menu, but there does not seem to be a way to change the background color, etc.  Is there still a way to change the background color, size/height, etc of that panel?

I noticed that when I logged in as root (as a test) that the panel was completely different than when I logged on as user.  I still could not find a way to change the settings, but I found it curious that the panels would be that different.  Is this "normal"?

Just a comment:  I have to say that this new settings menu structure is not very intuitive.  I never spent this much time finding the various settings for my desktop with PCLOS2009.  Either the flexibility of doing all this is more limited, or I am getting too old to find this stuff in the menus.

Thanks.

I'm glad that helped. We want to keep each post limited to one topic and when it is solved would like the one who initiated it (you) to go back to your first post, select the Modify button, and add (Solved) or something similar to the Subject line. That way your question will help you and many others who look in on the forums.

But ...
While I'm here - about the panel
Go to:
Configure Your Desktop > Look & Feel >Style
Select Workspace tab
Choose a Theme
Apply
That changes the panel, widgets and other things

Hope you find our little place friendly and helpful.

KDE 4 is a learning experience for all of us.

My apologies for continuing the thread.  I thought since I was still asking about settings, I would continue.

Yup - very normal indeed. The Root account is different from a regular user account to advise the person that they ARE in the Root account and hey, be careful out there, its a dangerous place!   ;D  ;D

I remember not so long ago (on some distro;s) when you logged into the Root account you had a completely different desktop - sometimes with big symbols, just to make it very VERY obvious.  ;D

Look & Feel >> Notifications >> System Notifications.  Change Event source to KDE System Notifications.  Change sounds to your hearts content.
