Can't get HPLIP to work consistently [Solved]
« on: May 11, 2010, 03:57:44 PM »
I have two HP printers (LJ 4200dtn and HP OJ Pro L7580) both 10/100 wired Ethernet on the same Netgear 10/100/1000 switch. I have no problems with the 4200dtn using hp-setup. I can browse the status messages and I get information on printer supplies. Both printers received their automatic IP addresses via my Linksys WRT54G running DD-WRT.

When I run hp-setup, it sees both printers but will NOT work with the OJ Pro L7580. When I select it to continue to the next step, I get an error dialog that says, "Unable to communicate with the device. Please check the device and try again." I can ping it, it gets the proper IP, I've changed the cable and switch. I'm at a loss.

Anyone know what I can do to get the scanner and FAX portion to work (It prints fine since I configured it with CUPS)? I'd also like to determine the status of supplied and have all of my HP printers in the HP status bar.

UPDATE: I don't know what I did but after trying for weeks, I managed to get everything working with almost no effort. I hadn't seen any updates but apparently the software fairies came by while I was asleep.

Cheers.
