What happens when you setup each desktop as you wish? Does it hold the setting? I would try it myself, But I am leaving for the day. You can just put an icon or two on the foldeview and a widget or two on desktopview as an experiment.

Much strangeness.... logged back on and the initial desktop is blue the other three have their wallpaper correct... if I go to folder view and select the wallpaper that it already thinks it has and then hit Apply... it works.

So far as I can tell, the rest of the folder view settings are correct (e.g. icons)

Logged in without rebooting and all is well today..... just read a post about garbled interfaces and SKEL referring to .kde4 directory.... could this be it?

You can have a different activity on each desktop, but if you make any of them Folder View they all become the same.

I guess the workaround is to use a Desktop view, but add a large "Folder View" plasma widget for the ~/Desktop folder.

If you delete your ~/.kde4 folder, a new one will be created from /etc/skel.

If I delete my .kde4 folder, what files in it do I need to backup and move to the new .kde4 folder to preserve my settings??

craesz, it's safer, and will accomplish the same thing to just rename .kde4 to kde4_old or something similar.  ;)

Thought of that one already  :)

I was just trying to keep from having to go through the setup process all over again.... (yep... that's my laziness showing)  :)

Don't confuse laziness with plain old being smart.  ;)
