Folks, again, many thanks!:)  Okay, I'm not pushing the monitor past it's specs.:)  So glad I checked up here.:)  I'm sure all you guys saved me a huge headache!:)

in fact if the resolution fails all you need to do is run XFdrake(or is XFconfig?)
