cmd-line logout/re-login

How about the following command (as user) to restart plasma-desktop:

killall plasma-desktop && plasma-desktop

..or maybe there is a better / cleaner way

perfect!!! That does exactly what I need without having to logout/login, refreshing the plasma-desktop does the trick. This is awesome, now I only need to rewrite the fm-scripts accordingly. Thanks a BUNCH!!!
