PCLXOS-2010----Can not access shared folders
« on: May 10, 2010, 12:34:26 PM »
Hello Folks:
Here is an issue I am encountering in my home networking set up. I am running a fully updated pclxos-2010 version on my box.I have set-up a simple file sharing and made certain that the shared folders & files have proper access permission. From this box I can see the other computers on my netwrok and can access shared folders and files without any issues. However, from the other computer using dolphin>network>sambashares, I see and can open this box, but when I click on any of the listed shared folders, I get the message: " the folder... does not exist" on the dolphin's status bar.
Any suggestions or guidance on how to resolve this issue?
Thanks in Advance!

Have you "Shared" the folders inside of samba?

To share a folder with Samba you do not simply set the permissions on the folders that you want to share, you have to tell Samba to share the files.

Open "Configure Your Computer/Network Sharing/Share drives and directorys with Windows" This will walk you through steps to share the directorys that you want on your network. Hope this helps you out.  ;)

First of all Thanks for you guidance!
Secondly, sorry for me being back late. Have been on a business trip.
I followed your instructions and noticed that all my shared folder are already listed on samba configure page. The way I had done it was in dolphine right clicked on a folder, used properties>permission and share tabs. Nonetheless, I re-did it again as you described. Also, I found out (in this forum) That I needed to install "Task samba" to make sure all dependencies were installed. This I did. Anyway, now from other computers I can access this box by entering its IP address only. The box's name is never displayed in dolphine>network>samba share. I am now happy with this set up. However, I am curious as why the boxes name (net bios name) is never displayed. Any thoughts on this?
Thanks again!
