Need to clear print queue?
« on: May 10, 2010, 05:27:21 AM »
I have a USB HP Laserjet P1006 printer that works with PCLinuxOS 2010.  However, I share this printer with a laptop by physically unplugging it and connecting it to the laptop.  Occasionally I forget to reconnect it to the PCLinuxOS computer before I try to print something.  PCLinuxOS thinks that the printer is connected, accepts the print job, and goes through its whole set of windows, but nothing prints (no printer is connected).  I am unable to print again until I go to Printerdrake, uninstall the old printer, and reinstall a new version.  I have tried disabling/enabling the printer, but this does not work.

I suspect that the print queue has something to do with this problem.

  • Is there a way for me to clear the print queue?
  • Is there a way for me to properly remove the printer in software, that I should do when I physically disconnect the printer?

You might try: Application Launcher Menu, More Applications, Printing, HP Device Manager. There is a tab for Printer Control that lets you manage what's in the que.

When arguing with a fool, make sure he is not being similarly entertained.

jakesdad,

Thank you.  This may be the way for me to clear the queue.  I won't push my luck right now to test it, but I will use this the next time I have a problem.  Of course, now that I went to the bother of posting the problem, I will probably not forget for a month.
