Add locale fails (Gnome)
« on: May 08, 2010, 02:03:17 AM »
Hi,

Sorry, I already posted this question on the official gnome forum but maybe the best place is here as this is about a "mainstream" tool...

I'm trying to localize my fresh PCLinuxOS 2010 Gnome installation in french but it always fails. I even tried reinstalling the whole system, tried to "reset" to english before applying french, I also tried changing my active repo, the process always ends at the same point: the first part of the script is ok (downloading a bunch of files) then the 40s wait, then a new script windows opens and does some work, then it fails with a message saying to look at a /tmp/AL_STEP1.log file for more information. Its content is:
Code: [Select]
Reading Package Lists...
Building Dependency Tree...

Any idea ?

if that happens in Gnome only then this is not a addlocale problem but there must be some dependency conflict of some Gnome-package. I will check this over the weekend and will try to debug the problem.
-p.

edit: please first fully update your Gnome installation. Then run addlocale and let me know if it still crashes. In this case a package needed for the new localization can not be installed for whatever reason and I will have to find out which package that is and for what reason it can not be installed.

Yes I fully updated first. And the second time I installed PCLinusOS Gnome, I took care not to remove anything before updating, so I had the full original update Gnome version of PCLinuxOS 2010.

Next time I'll boot it, I'll try to do a Add Locale in another language to check if only french impacted...

PS: here is the dialog I got when it failed. I just tried with italian and the result is the same. The only thing i did on this fresh updated install was to change the theme.
