Draklive will not start
« on: May 06, 2010, 05:14:48 PM »
After now test driving all of the different DE versions, I decided to go with XFCE.  When I click the "install" icon, the Drak installer asks for the root password and upon entering launches the installer.  When I hit next, nothing happens.  The Drak installer screen goes away and never comes back.  Funny thing is, I had the exact same problem with the KDE beta version, but the final worked fine.  I had posted on this then, but never got it resolved and the final fixed it.  This is the exact same problem.  Strange, isn't it?

Some have had success running the command from a console. Don't know if this helps but give that a shot.??

Maybe you got a bunch of partitions and some overlapping and the installer can't read them properly.

Thanks to everyone who donates. You keep the servers running.

I was planning to overwrite my KDE final install.  Should it be wiped first?

I haven't had any problems with this so far.  Did you ever get it working on your hardware?

Run

fdisk  -l

from a terminal to check if your partitions are all OK.

You could copy/paste the output in your next post for someone to have a look at ........

I've installed Phoenix 2010 on 3 computers thus far, and I've never had a single problem. The installation has always gone exceptionally smooth and fast. Perhaps check for overlapping partitions, as Texstar suggests. Something is definitely amiss.

Finally getting back to working on this and have tried to install the Gnome and ZenMini version via the install icon.  All of the DE's have the same problem, so it is obviously a general problem, not a xfce one.  It must be "seeing" something from my current 2010 KDE 4 install.  I have not yet tried what was suggested above, but I will.  If I could narrow down what it was "seeing", in theory I could move it or delete it to get a fresh install.  Am I correct in this logic?

If I could narrow down what it was "seeing"...

the command fdisk -l (thats a lower case L) will help you with this;  you can also start the partition manager with the command diskdrake

..also be aware that it is not uncommon for the installer to have a bit of a delay as it tries to figure out what installation options will work best for you.  This is especially true if you have more than just a couple of partitions.

Yeah, I've done the old "wait and see".  Still nothing.  There's definitely a problem.  I'll try the suggestion when I get home, but not tonight.  It's my wife's birthday and tinkering with the computer would not be in my best interest!! ;)

Whoops!!  Sorry about that.  I was post from a netbook and I just had eye surgery.  It looked right to me!! :D   I meant to say I typed in fdisk -l at the prompt and nothing happened.  No error messages either.  I then typed diskdrake and the partition manager did pop up.
