I'm Confused......
« on: May 06, 2010, 12:09:56 PM »
Using 2010 upgraded to current.  I now find I cannot even create a link to my own apps.  Konqeror superuser mode is gone. Why have they tied our hands? Or have I screwed up along the way?  Mandriva tied our hands and I deleted it immediately, please don't do that to PCLinuxOS!  Yes I can log in as ROOT but I don't want to have to, I'm a big boy now........ If there is a way around this please let me know....  And if I have screwed up somehow please except my apology for the rant!

Maybe you are trying to do things in a different manner than KDE4 understands .......  thus confusion on all sides   :D

where is your app and where do u want to create a link to it? on the desktop, panel, kicker menu?

There are a number of ways you can start konqueror in super user mode. Which way would you like to do it, specify your problem exactly and people will give solutions that will work.

Ok first part of my apology, while trying to create a link to an application I could not assign an icon to it.  I've never had this happen and since konqueror superuser mode was missing thought bad things. After I posted the first time I went back and looked into it further, found that I could actually get an icon assigned but not until after the link was created then go back into the properties section then I could assign it.  And yes I know there are several ways of starting konqeror in super user mode but to me it would have been much simpler if it had not been deleted from the file tools menu.  I realize that by allowing access to root in this manner is dangerous for the newbie.  I'm not a newbie, been a member of PCLinuxOS since January of 2006 a few days after Tex started PCLinux, I guess thats why it botherd me.   Guess I'm just getting old and cranky.........

how do you know it was deliberately removed and not moved to someplace else you havent checked or there is something wrong with your configuration or its absence is a bug that need to be reported and fixed?

It is always better to ask first for explanations or confirmations before starting constructing opinions.

On my box it's still there.

On the other hand, after the latest updates many things stopped working. A reboot fixed that -- and it's probable that restarting KDE would have been enough.

So have you upgraded lately, and did you reboot afterwards?

Konq-S-U is under File Tools for me.  Never moved it or put it there.  It's just there by default.  I'm fully updated.

As Blackbird stated reboot, I thought I seen a notice after this latest up date Tex stated Reboot.
