(Solved) K3b notificaton sounds problem
« on: May 05, 2010, 08:49:23 PM »
Has anyone else found a problem with the K3b notification sounds in 2010?  The success and fail sounds are truncated.  I had the same problem on my desktop and laptop.  They start to play and then abruptly stop.  I checked the files themselves, they're wav files in usr/share/sounds.  If I play them through smplayer, they work fine.  If I play them through Amarok they are truncated.  I tried other wav files borrowed off a windows box and they play fine in both Amarok and smplayer.  Weird.  I switched the file association for wav to smplayer  and they work fine now.  But the mystery continues.  Any ideas?

i don't remember if the sounds are in ogg or wav format, you mention they are wav, this usually gave me problems on other os too, maybe convert them to ogg or mp3?

Thanks!  Not a problem for me either, just wanted to see if it was just my installations or a more general issue.

Hi

As T6 has mentioned, converting them to ogg will fix the truncation problem.
This is what I did, and it worked.  :)

This is not a new problem, it was reported in October 2009 here: http://www.pclinuxos.com/forum/index.php/topic,64130.msg519151.html

Thanks bitzbox!  I did do a search prior to starting a new thread.  After reading your note I re-checked my search to figure out why I didn't see that older post.  I thought I had search the right terms.  When I started to re-type "K3B sounds" into the search box this morning, autocomplete popped up and showed me I had already searched for that term.  Either I didn't see the old thread or it wasn't shown in the results for some reason.  This thread has some suggested fixes though, the old thread was just observations on the beta.  Marking this "solved".  Thanks all.

I was having this problem too.  So I used audacity to convert the wav files to ogg.   then moved them into /usr/share/sounds.   Went to Notification tab in Desktop setup and assigned them.

Now it works.

From what I saw in the sounds folder, there are only a handful of wav files.   There was one folder with wav files that appeared to be for Pidgin; the three K3b wav files, and one "pop.wav".  All the rest of the sounds were ogg.
