[SOLVED] Hotkeys ok in KDE but not LXDE?
« on: May 05, 2010, 07:44:08 AM »
I have reinstalled PCLinuxOS 2010 but I used the LXDE version this time. Everything works the same except for my hotkey capability on my Acer Extensa laptop of fn+up or down arrow is not enabled, which is used for sound volume. I have not confirmed if other fn+key settings work yet.

I did go into the keyboard settings and chose Acer/Laptop, but that did not enable the hotkeys. Can anyone provide guidance on setting them up in LXDE? I could always switch to KDE, but LXDE seems pretty snappy (well...snappier....KDE is fast as well). I tried going into Synaptic and installing the keyboard program (first of 2 listed....at work now and can't recall the name), but it showed installed in Synaptic but was not found on the menus. At that point I knew it was not to be while I rubbed my tired eyes and realized it was only 5 hours till I had to be back up for work.

Any guidance is appreciated. Simple problem, but I use that feature constantly. If too difficult I'll just throw KDE back on and enjoy as before.

Install acme. If it doesn't show in the menu, use
Code: [Select]
acme in a terminal to start it.

Ok so I installed ACME and it worked fine on an HP Touchsmart machine running LXDE. I opened a terminal, typed ACME, edited preferences in the panel and closed the terminal. Everything saved and it works fine.

Problem: On my Acer Extensa 5420 when I close the terminal it also closes ACME. How do I make it stay open after I set preferences? I don't want to have an application running with it minimized like you would see a browser, Synaptic or other app that you have to initiate. I just want it in the panel lower right with the sound settings, network icon and time. Is that something I missed on one machine but got right on the other without realizing it? I searched the forums but did not find anything specific to my problem.

Download the attached file. Right click it and choose Rename. Remove the .txt and type <Enter>.
Open /home/<your-name>/.config/autostart and put the file in that folder.
Logout - login.

I don't have a /.config/autostart anywhere I have searched from root through all folders. Still searching. If it's a hidden folder how would I enable viewing it?

Open your /home folder (You! Not root!) In the address field, append /.config/autostart. Or click View (on the toolbar) > Show hidden files.

Do not do this as root! Do it as you (user).
