Seems Filemanager Super User, has gone for the start menu of 2010.

However typing konqueror su in the console produces this error "Protocol Not Supported"

From consol su typing konqueror su produces this error
"
No protocol specified
konqueror: cannot connect to X server :0.0
"

Same thing happens when trying to use Dolphin.

I'm sure there is a simple way to get a filemanager running as root. :-[

Odd - Konqueror - Super User Mode is in my KMenu under File Tools as usual.

You could always try Configure Your Desktop >> Personal >> Default Applications > and check to see which File Managers are listed. On my system one of them is Dolphin Super User, therefore if you have it you could use that temporarily and then switch back. (I don't use this so not sure whether you need to log out and back in again to activate it)

But, that doesn't solve the absence of Konqueror - Super User Mode from your menu.

Are you using the full 2010 KDE version?

What OS are you running? PC --> File Tools --> Konqueror - Super User Mode, or from a terminal;

[polack@littleboy ~]$ kdesu konqueror /

Old-Polack

Of what use be there for joy, if not for the sharing thereof?

I'm running a clean install of 2010 KDE. I'd used File Manager Super User in beta 2. However when I installed 2010 final  I decided not to keep my old KDE settings. So my menu setup should be the default for a new install of 2010.

When I navigate to Configure Your Desktop >> Personal >> Default Applications >
Dolphin - Super User Mode is an optino. However selecting it doesn't seem result in the super user version begin used.

kdesu konqueror has brought up Konqueror in superuser mode.  Thanks :D

Likewise kdesu dolphin brings up Dolphi in superuser mode.

That's great.

The menu is now a panel under Plasma. So I guess I need to edit this in order to add File Manager SU to the menu?

Actually it turns out I don't know how to edit the start menu. A lot of things have moved around or changed their names in KDE4. However I now know how to get Dolphin and Konqueror running in superuser mode, which is all I need for now.

Thanks old-polack and menotu  :D

Okey dokey, lets try and explain it - very simple.

Just right click on the KMenu (PC Logo) and select Menu Editor

Once thats opened you can travel around the various sub menu's. You can add new apps, move items around to suit, rename existing titles etc (be careful with the command entries)

Once you have it as you want just press the Save icon.

LOL I guess I didn't check in the obvious place.  :P

OK I just copied and pasted the Dolphin entry and then edited the command field

from
"dolphin %i -caption "%c" %u"

to
"kdesu dolphin %i -caption "%c" %u"

And it works.

Brilliant! Thanks again menoto!
