Hello I would like to use a remote to run a PCLOS media centre (ie/ XBMC)
but I have no idea which ones work with linux, ideally i would like this to be as pain free as possible.

From Synaptic:
'congruity' is a simple GUI to program Logitech Harmony remotes. This software
allows you to program your Logitech Harmony remote using a configuration
object retreived from the harmony website:
http://members.harmonyremote.com/.
I'd say Logitech Harmony would be a good one to put on your list.
