TVTime not working in 2010 KDE full and clean install
« on: April 28, 2010, 01:32:36 PM »
Have been a PCLOS user since 2004. Pre "Big Daddy" I believe...  Grin Thanks for another great release. Been patiently waiting for this one. It is worth the wait.
On that note, after a clean install of 2010 KDE, (latest kernel) I no longer am able to run TVTime.
(Note that Xawtv with some mild configuration works fine.)

When I run TVTime from the menus it launches, then goes away.
Figuring this was a video problem, I tried it from a Konsole. Here is the output I get...

Running tvtime 1.0.2.
Reading configuration from /etc/tvtime/tvtime.xml
Reading configuration from /home/tim/.tvtime/tvtime.xml

Cannot allocate enough off-screen video memory.  This may be fixed by:

      1. Closing or restarting large X applications.
      2. Lowering the input width of tvtime (--inputwidth parameter).
      3. Lowering your colour depth or highest configured resolution.
      4. Increasing the amount of video memory in your X config file
(for example, if you are using the i810 XFree86 driver.)

    See http://tvtime.net/ for more information.
Thank you for using tvtime.

I have tried decreasing color depth, as well as running TVTime with the inputwidth parameter
set to anything from 420 all the way to the default (720)....
Oddly, when running from the CLI, TVTime runs, but it appears deinterlacing or some other
setting is still incorrect and I can not read the menus well enough to run through them to correct this.

Does someone have a valid TVTime.xml configuration file I can have to get TVtime running properly?
The files given at their home page are ambiguous at best and not geared to PCLOS.
I was hoping someone on these forums is using TVTime with PCLOS 2010.

BTW, it should be noted this happens on three different computers...
Here are the hardware specs of the machine I would really like to get working:

Latest Kernel (Clean PCLOS 2010 KDE CD Install, including reformatting all partitions.)
Dell Precision 330 Server
1.2 Ghz Processor
32 Meg Video RAM
1 Gig RAM
BT878 compatible WinTV card

Also configured the TV Card in PCC per the output of dmesg and lspci.

Let me know if there any commands I can run or if I need to run an older version of TVTime,
or if after searching the Forum and TVTime site as I already have, I just plain missed something...
I have been known to not only be the master of the obvious, but to miss the obvious as well.

Just looking for some guidance.

Thanks,
Wyo

BTW, here is the output from lspci:

No one?
Anything?
More info required?
Is the solution that obvious that this question warrants no response at all?

Bests,
Wyo

I am not running Compiz...
Don't really have the horse power nor the need to do so.

Yup.
Running a Matrox dual head video card, properly configured.
Running a Dell 24 inch wide screen LCD monitor.
Again, properly configured.
Tried removing wallpaper, decreasing color depth and closing all the other apps.
No joy.
Tried running a couple different configuration files I found on the web.
No joy.
Like I say, XawTV works fine.
Maybe I will just use that.
I just find it a little annoying that TVTime will not work, where it once did.

Thanks for the response.

TVTime works fine for me. I never have to do anything for it to work with my card under PCLinuxOS, I just run it and presto! I have an Encore TV+FM card. FM works great too.

Do you have any new hardware?
Have you tried uninstalling-reinstalling?
