kde3 for 2010??
« on: May 04, 2010, 05:47:42 AM »
May be a retrograde step  ;) but is it possible to specify kde3 for 2010?  Too many changes at the moment for my little brain. Thanks.

Well, I can't see how to
- access additional panels (only the bottom panel is visible, although I've created another at the desktop upper edge)
- alter the background colour of an additional panel (e.g. the one at the upper edge of the desktop)
- permanently add a widget to a panel (currently to the lower (the only visible) one)
- place an app (e.g. DiskFree) into the bottom panel

And these are only a few things that I've stumbled over in the first hour; presumably there are plenty of other (interesting  ??? ) surprises yet to be discovered.

most questions you have and will have are already asked and answered on the forum. The search feature is your friend in your transition to kde4

Keep in mind that kde4 is different from kde3, it does certain things more or less the same way, it does a few things kde3 didnt and it doesnt do a few other things kde3 did.

Have an open, ask when you are stuck anywhere after searching first and you will have a tolerable transition phase. If you want things to be exactly the way they were in kde3, then you are going to have a bumpy transition and you might not survive it :D
.. 3 things are certain in life : death, taxes and software bloat ..
.. tell me something i don't know, something i can use as i struggle to reason with the world around me ..

In other words, you're saying that it's not possible to run kde3 in 2010. Correct?  That would be sad, because there's a pretty significant change here, quite apart from the apps changes - and related faults - (nearly) always associated with a new issue.

yes, it is not possible to run kde3 in pclinuxos2010. If you want to use 2010 base but for one reason or another kde4 isnt working for you, you can try other desktop environments like gnome, xfce, lxde etc.
