It's been awhile since I tried playing with this computer so I can only remember staying up all night trying to solve this problem... I honestly don't remember everything I have tried hehe... just got back from Prom so having a hard time thinking... Nut it has 2 P3s 2 gb of RAM (maybe 2.5 not sure), mainly scsi drives but I loaded a PCI IDE card so I can use IDE devices faster. I have an 80gb drive that I'm trying to load with PCLOS and I have 2 cd drives. Nothing crazy just the standard setup.
P.S.
The only distro I have ever gotten to load was Suse becasue I used another computer to boot the live cd and then I switched the hard drives because Suse configures hardware after the computer is restarted. Pretty nifty if you ask me. But I like PCLOS a lot so I really want it or I can reload Suse...
Hope you had a good time

Things are changing everyday in Linux with regard to hardware recognition so I would seriously suggest that you try a new live CD and use verbose mode so that any error you see can be reported back.
It may just need a boot code or two to get her started, or maybe not.
Yes people have had some success with installing PCLOS in one machine and using it in another .... because hardware detection can take place at every boot if set.
But that assumes that the second set of hardware is also recognised by the OS.
That is the reason to do some tests on booting the HP from CD in the first place ....... so that you can determine what is preventing the booting of the OS.
So over to you ...... you need to do a series of boot attempts with a live CD and report back exactly what happens and what errors occur.
That should give the people here who would help some information to base their suggestions on.
