When I add words to the Abiword spellcheck during a spell check session using the "Add" button they aren't remembered. I did a search and came up with nothing and got no reply when I posted to the Abiword mailing list.

Also even though I have US English chosen it refuses to accept US spellings as correct. That is one reason I at least need to fix the "Add" function if possible. Then when I add "color" to the list it will stick and stop trying to put a "u" in color.

I have had no problems adding the made up words - "bla, and binky ".  Abiword added them to the dictionary and I can use them now at will with no spell check problems.  ??? ???   Strange. Good luck.  :P

Thanks, Rudge. Now that I know it is just me I'll experiment some more. Maybe I'll try reinstalling.

Edit: Reinstalling didn't help. Can you tell me if your Abysuite in Home is empty except for the empty folder Abiword Profile. In Abiword Edit > Preferences > Spell Checking tab is Dictionaries grayed out?

Yes, I did install the Abiword dictionaries from Synaptic.

Ok, diging through documentation Abiword expects to find Aspell at "/usr/local/share/AbiSuite-2.0/dictionary/" but "AbiSuite-2.0/dictionary" does not exist on my computer in that folder and Find Folders couldn't find it. Aspell is installed. I'm using Minime.

The only place I have Abiword installed is in LXDE install. I do not see it on my full 2010 install.

On my LXDE install, I do not see the directory you mentioned.
