PCI Wireless Card -- Need suggestions
« on: May 03, 2010, 11:05:13 AM »
Hi all -- I installed PCLOS 2009 on a friend's pc several month's ago.  He now needs a wireless card (PCI), and I'm wondering if I should recommend one in particular...?  I know when I tried to get PCLOS on my daughter's PC, we had issues with her wireless (even w/ NDIS wrapper, it wouldn't work.)

I don't remember what his motherboard is, but it's an AMD processor, if that makes any difference.  Thanks, folks!

Edimax (Linux friendly)... Ralink chips. Works although I think to remember that the driver doesn't came with 2009-2 but was in the repo's.

They have on their site what many don't have:

Supports Windows 98SE/Me/2000/XP/Vista, Linux  and MAC

Hence ... they deserve our patronage.

Thanks, bicol_willem.  I did some more reading on the Edimax and it looks adequate for what he needs.   I'll have him get the EDIMAX EW-7128G from newegg.com.   I may need to help him w/ the driver, but that's no biggy (I trust!).  Thanks again.

I didn't have a problem with the driver. I just installed the card and rebooted,, magic. It worked.
