(solved) AMD Turion X2 only running at half speed
« on: May 02, 2010, 05:53:33 PM »
This AMD Turion X2 TL50 processor should be running at 1.6 ghz but I am only seeing 800 mhz according to cat /proc/cpuinfo  How do I get the processor to run at full speed while plugged in, not on battery?

ka9yhd:

You might try;

[robert@localhost ~]$ cat /proc/cpuinfo |grep -i mhz

to keep the output just a bit shorter.  ;D

From here:

[polack@littleboy ~]$ cat /proc/cpuinfo |grep -i mhz
cpu MHz         : 1728.898

Now this is interesting.  If I use cat /proc/cpuinfo I get 800 mhz  But if I use the cat /proc/cpuinfo |grep -i mhz is shows 1.6 ghz
[robert@localhost ~]$ cat /proc/cpuinfo |grep -i mhz
cpu MHz      : 1600.000
cpu MHz      : 1600.000

Why the difference?  So which speed is the processor running at?

cpufreq-info and cpufreq-set may help you on this

I suspect your cpufreq governor is set to ondemand

you can change this by using 'cpufreq-set -g performance' (w/o quotes) as root in a konsole.

performance will get it running at full power at all times

Ok thank you that worked.  Now cat /proc/cpuinfo is showing 1600 mhz
