No Device recognised for the driver.
« on: May 02, 2010, 05:12:50 AM »
Hi All

I have just installed PCLinux 2010

I have an Asus wlan card (libertas) bcmwl5 driver.
The card is recognised in the list of hardware, but is not showing up in network connections.
When I am asked to use a driver with ndswrapper, it says there is no hardware that matches the driver.
Only the lan shows up and of course works fine.

Help, is required as I am relatively new in Linux.

Cheers

Read this.

I had the same problem, admittedly with a completely different device.

You may find something there that helps you.

Hi

Thanks for that.
I have actually now got the correct driver and it finds the card, but am having trouble connecting to the internet.
Oh well, I guess it's more head scratching till I figure it out.
PCLinux 2010 is a great distro. Best yet.

Cheers

The only problem now is that it hangs on the "booting up" screen. Hmmm.

Hmmm indeed.

Can you manage to boot up to the desktop at all? If not, may be worth doing a clean install (if you haven't got much to lose).

Then (do this even if you don't reinstall):
1. Is the card listed in PCLOS Control center - Hardware - Browse and Configure Hardware? If so, is it listed as the correct type of device, and is the correct driver / module shown?
2. Is it an internal PCI adapter card, or is it a USB device?
3. Start a terminal, and run lsusb, lsmod, lspci, and iwconfig and post the results

Yes. I actually did a clean install and disconnected the ethernet cable.
I tried he clean install and it went as it should and the wireless card was recognised and I was able to connect to the internet, wirelessly.
It seems that there is a conflict with the two cards.
Anyway, thanks for the help, it was much appreciated. Problem solved
