[SOLVED] Youtube works with Opera, not Firefox
« on: May 01, 2010, 09:33:29 AM »
My system and Firefox tells me that Adobe Flash is installed but I can't get Youtube to play. Youtube works in Opera.  I'm too used to Firefox to switch to anything else. Any suggestions to quickly resolve this?

what addons do you have in firefox?  flashblock installed?

what version of pclinux/desktop are you running and what version of flash are you using?

Firefox shows a white box with 2 vertical 1" stripes.
Never installed flashblock (why would anyone except Steve Jobs do that - and you still wonder what his problem is?)
PCLOS 2010 and I installed the current Flash from the Adobe RPM following their instructions to try to resolve this.

You could try creating a new FFox account and see if it still occurs.

Or create a new PCLinuxOS user account and try FFox in that account to see if there is anything lurking around in your main account mucking things up.

Naturally after looking further at about:plugins I found I had 2 versions of Flash installed. I renamed one (effectively deleting it), restarted FF and Flash is working again.
Thanks for waking me up.

because you don't want to waste bandwidth or hear noises from flash videos that you don't want to hear?

gain speed loading a page?

I would think that with the resources ($$$) available to Apple that they would be able to cooperatively work with Adobe to produce a product that would make all of their propitiatory software/hardware work together instead of at odds. This way they would be able to provide all services in return for the prices they charge their customers.
