Internet via GPRS/Edge/3G
« on: May 01, 2010, 05:36:28 AM »
I am unable to connect using my Nokia phone. Tried setting up via new network interface/GPRS/Edge/3G but it says no device can be found for this connection type.

Tried via Network Center, wherein Wired (Ethernet) - usbpn0, recognises the connected Nokia E71 but on clicking "Connect", nothing happens. I need to use this connection type when travelling.

Any help to get this connection going will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

It would be a lot more helpful if you would post exactly what you have done.

Are you trying to connect by using a cable or bluetooth ?

Do you have wvdial installed ?

Did you edit the wvdial.conf file ?

Does your system actually see your phone ?

I am trying to connect using a usb cable. The phone is recognized under "Network Center" as an E71. That is about as far as I can get.

wvdial is installed. Although the phone is recognized as above under "Network Center", this is what I get:

Scanning your serial ports for a modem.

ttyS0<Info>: Device or resource busy
Modem Port Scan<*1>: S0
ttyS1<Info>: Device or resource busy
Modem Port Scan<*1>: S1
ttyS2<Info>: Device or resource busy
Modem Port Scan<*1>: S2
ttyS3<Info>: Device or resource busy
Modem Port Scan<*1>: S3

Sorry, no modem was detected!  Is it in use by another program?
Did you configure it properly with setserial?

Since I am not an expert in Linux and not exactly knowing what setserial is all about, I have left it at that, as of now.

Please list your actual phone model.
connect your phone and have turned on then open a terminal and enter"lsusb" ( without quote's ) and that is lowercase L not i .
then copy and paste the output in a reply here.

The phone is a Nokia E71.

I have since been able to connect. Apparently the DKU cable was faulty. Tested the connection with another cable, was able to configure the wvdial.conf file and have got the connection going.

Many thanks for your time and assistance.
