Access PCC without loging in
« on: April 30, 2010, 04:06:53 PM »
To make a long story shorter "something" (may or may not have been weird in nature ;D) happened to my set up and after booting the keyboard and mouse quit working, I had been in "system/ services" in PCC.  after a reboot, at log-in  nothing worked, needed a hard reboot or "alt print reisub" to get control. Tried to fsck it from a "Live" one, no soap, but the keyboard and moose was fine (occasionally it gets a mind of its own). Did some searching here and around and nothing jumped out at me. Looked else where and found out you could open MCC PCC from a safe-boot by going into a root prompt instead of "control-D" and typing "PCC" , you don't get the fancy gui pcc but it still does what you need. I'd like to think no one will need to know that , but it might come in handy if you do. Also did a "chkconfig" while I was there.
Whether it was one or both that did the trick I couldn't say for sure but I'm pretty happy as the only other option I saw was a re-install that took me a couple days to get how I wanted.

Plan to be spontaneous tomorrow.

chkconfig isn't going to change things unless you told it to do so. So just looking at the service and the run levels that are turned on or off isn't going to change anything.

As for typing PCC, that has been available for a very long long time. You can also get there by typing MCC, a left over from the old days with Mandrake.
