[Solved] - Wine, Windows Publisher and Adobe PDF help
« on: April 30, 2010, 03:46:24 PM »
Hello all,

I would like some help concerning Wine, Windows Publisher and Adobe PDF.

The problem: I have to convert several Microsoft Publisher files to PDF files on a regular basis. I do this by opening the .pub files with Publisher and then "printing to Adobe PDF. I have tried some of the free web sites that will convert them but due to the layout it doesn't work properly.

I guess the question is specifically what can I set up that will allow me to do this on PCLinux 2010?

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Danny

have you installed either open office, or koffice?  i believe they offer to open such files, which you can then save to .pdf.  the .pdf files you can read with kpdf.

you can run windows os in an emulator, such as virtualbox, and then run windows publisher in that.

others will come up with much fuller explanations.

Neither OO or KOffice will open the publisher files. If they, my problem would be solved. Will give virtual box a try.

Publisher files are one of those thing that if you must have it, you need Virtual Box  :-\

http://www.pdfonline.com/convert-pdf/ is a free service that I have used to convert MicroSoft Publisher files to PDF.  It was the best one I found for some Publisher files and I did not have the Microsoft Publisher program. I did not even use Virtual Box.  Just went to the site in PCLinuxOS with Firefox or Opera and input the Publisher file from there.

Thanks to everyone for their input.

I installed virtual box, windows xp, Office with Publisher, Adobe and a ftp program. This now allows me to open publisher files and "print" them to PDF.

Virtual box was a lot easier to set up than I originally thought.
