Caps lock indication?
« on: April 30, 2010, 10:27:03 AM »
Hi, I'm using a netbook with no caps lock led, so I'd like some indication of when it's on.

After playing with 'accessibility' setup, I've got it to play sounds on activation and deactivation but the option to "mark taskbar entry" on the notification setup (which sounds useful) doesn't seem to do anything at all.

A widget in the panel would be nice but I haven't found one.

Help much appreciated.

[I'm very impressed with PCLOS, no other distro has been reliable enough to get around to worrying about this level of niggle...  :) ]

google turn up this applet: http://kde-look.org/content/show.php/Keyboard+Status+Applet?content=115234

check it in the repository and make a request in package request area for it if it isnt already there

Gkrellm in is in the repository; if you install it and the gkrellm-plugins, you can use gkleds to monitor the Caps Lock and NumLock, and in fact you can use the mouse to click them off and on.

Thanks both.

Gkrellm looks like a total overkill (unless you can disable everything else).

It seems there is a reopened bug on this in KDE.

According to this guy the available options aren't good.

I guess Ill stick with my sounds for the time being. Can someone tell me what the "mark taskbar entry" in the accessibility setup does (or is supposed to do)?

Yes, you absolutely can.

Did you try it? The only opinion that matters is yours, and you can remove it as easily as you can install it. Some of what you think is overkill may actually be helpful, too. I love CPU temp monitoring, for instance, and it has a small footprint.
