So I'm having mouse issues.

I can't find synaptic in my setup so I check the repository.

I see there is synaptiks for kde 4

install it.

I can't find it under configuration.

I switch to  'configure your desktop', 'keyboard and mouse' and 'touchpad'.  It says  "The synaptiks daemon isn't running".

So I check 'services'  and synaptik is't even listed...sigh.

I hate they way they changed the menus from kde 3.xxx

By the way, the old synaptic has dependency issues.

Try installing qsynaptics. Then go to Applications/More Applications/Configuration/Synaptics TouchPad.

Thanks that worked - the other two issues are unresolved though - will the developers see this thread ?

Did you logout and back in again? After I installed synaptiks, logged out and back in again I got a message at the top of my screen saying my system did not support it which is true since I don't have a touchpad on my desktop computer. There is also an entry for it in the configure your desktop.

Hi everyone, i did what was suggested above and installed gsynaptic and it works great, however the only way i can get to the program is Alt+f2 and type gsynaptics, it doesnt show up as an icon in the:Applications/More Applications/Configuration/Synaptics TouchPad. is there any way i can get this to show up in that menu so i don't have to Alt+f2 type it each time? Using Pclos Kde 2010.1

I was just messing with this. synaptiks sounds interesting because it can automatically turn off the touchpad when typing or when a mouse is plugged in. qsynaptics works, but you have to open it to turn off the touchpad, which is perfectly fine when plugging in a mouse, but not useful for typing. (You have to hold your thumbs in the air when typing over a touchpad !!)

Unfortunately, when I tried to set it up, it froze my touchpad whether I was typing or not. I had to use ctl-alt-backspace and log in to lxde, and remove synaptiks. I can keep holding up my thumbs!

From my earlier post:To get Synaptiks to work, install from the repository, and (easy way)restart your computer. The configuration is under, Configure your desktop, Computer Administration, Keyboard & Mouse, and a new entry "Touchpad". You need to start the daemon or restart the computer before you configure the touchpad or you will get a warning that the daemon is not running. Just what I needed. I'm to clumsy to use a USB mouse, keyboard and a touchpad at the same time! Thanks Tex and Crew for getting this on Synaptic PM. Jakesdad

Hi again, im using the gsynaptis is there anyway to have it as an icon in the menu? The only way i can access it is to type alt+f2 and type gsynapics.
Also it looses the settings every time the computer is shut down! is there anyway to have it keep the settings so i don't have to make my settings every time i start the computer?
