is is a fingerprint reader to log in to the system?
that feature is kinda "new" and not much laptops has it, in general it is not a popular function, most systems today are using the web camera to do a face scan(newer laptops and some netbooks)
i think you found as much as possible to do what you want, as you see is not much and is very specific for each distro on specific versions
the link on linuxplanet is for the older pclinux and older kernel, experimental
the other link on, the howto is for debian testing version if i remember correctly
it mentions a app called fingerprint reader that i can't fin on repos(maybe a package request?)
the last link mentions exactly a driver for this fingerprint readers that should be added to the kernel if it exist for the model you have, if not, the free version should exist, otherwise...
as i said, this is not a popular technology, usually the laptop that has, is more expensive
