For anyone who's interested,
There is a revised version of Tim's guide (typeset with LaTeX) which incorporates his numerous screenshots, as well as suggestions made by users here in the forum. It's now up to 26 pages long and 6.6 MB in size. The file is too large to attach here, so it has been posted on two websites:
Workaround #1:
This is my first attempt at using DropBox. I think it should be possible for you to view and download the guide without having to register for an account:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/7269942/pclos-2010-install-final.pdfPlease let me know if you have any problems, and I'll look at other alternatives. I read reviews of two services,
http://www.mediafire.com and
http://www.box.net, which sounded promising; however, I couldn't get them to work at all -- when I tried to upload the file, Firefox completely froze.
Workaround #2:
The PDF is available for viewing at scribd.com:
In order to download the document, they still want you to register as a user (it's free). But at least this way, you can read the guide first and then decide whether to register (if you really want to download).
If you find the guide useful, please feel free to share it with your friends, neighbors or co-workers who might be considering a trial installation of PCLOS. Thank you!
P.S. to coffeetime:
Thanks for your suggestion, but when I tried uploading the PDF to ImageShack I got an error message telling me that the file was too large.
