Huawei EC 168 USB Modem
« on: April 27, 2010, 11:10:35 AM »
I use this Alltel Huawei USB modem to connect to the internet, for several months I have been using KPPP to connect it to the internet.
Today I discovered that it can be set up through PCC and it will connect at boot, without KPPP.

Go into PCC ( configure your computer)

Select Network and Internet > Set up a new network interface
Next select - Alolog telephone modem (POTS) - click next
Select - Manual Choice and click next
Now choose which serial port your modem is connected to ( Mine happens to be at /dev/ttyUSB0) and click next
Select Your Provider ( if you are in the US click on the triangle's so that NO Provider is selected ) and click next
Now set up Dialup: account options
Connection Name: Alltel ( that's what I named mine ) call yours whatever you like
Phone number: #777 ( should work for Alltel and Verizon )
Login ID: Your 10 digit phone number ( the one you use when you pay your bill )
Password: Your Password
Authentication: PAP/CHAP ----- Now click next
Dialup IP Parameters: Automatic ---------click next
Dialup DNS Parameters: Automatic -------click next
Gateway: Automatic ------- Click next
The next screen will ask you to wait - when it reappears select your controls ( Mine is connect at boot and enable traffic accounting ) --- click next
Now it will ask: Do you want to try the connection now--- YES---- click next and WAIT

You should now be connected to the internet ---- at least I am -----click FINISH

Now when you reboot your computer it will connect at boot up.
