PCC Manage system localization broken
« on: April 26, 2010, 02:15:07 PM »
I just installed 2010.0 on my new PC, everything looks fine until I try to install and run scim for Chinese input.

I launched PCC and go into System - Manage System Localization and then selected Chinese Simplified, then select the input method SCIM. PCC returned with an error message saying that installation of scim-goolglepinyin is unsuccessful. the same occur when choosing Traditional  Chinese and SCIM-Bridge as the preferred input method.

I also looked through the synaptic repo, there is no package called scim-googlepinyin. I already have scim-pinyin and scim-bridge installed.

There is also another problem here: in this section, I cannot find my country Malaysia, so I have to chose other country instead  ???

please help, Thanks!

Hi cwchia,

to localize your system, have you already tried PCmenu -> More Applications -> Configuration -> Add Locale.

I think I'm going to change pcc to call addlocale instead of the internal setup as it works so well.

Tex, this is great news! OK, this is off-topic here but maybe, and because addlocale can also be used to restore to en_US, it should be re-named to Localization Manager? In fact I already thought to also rename getopenoffice to OOmanager for the same reasons (cause it installs, upgrades, adds locales, reinstalls, and properly removes OO).

cwchia,
just remembered that KDE4 does not support Malay but if you either install a different DE (i.e. task-gnome), or in case you already have a non-KDE version of PCLinuxOS installed, then you can use addlocale to add a Malay localization.
good luck,

Dear pinoc,

I am not going to localize my KDE, I prefer to work in English environment, but occasionally I need to input Chinese text. What I find strange is that even though PCC is trying to install the package 'scim-googlepinyin' which is NOT in the repository!

Just found another problem in the same section: I am from Malaysia and when I click on 'other country' Malaysia is not listed there.
