Strange ... No Internet connection on reboot
« on: April 26, 2010, 12:16:03 PM »
It began happening within the last week or so.
Prior to that all was well.

On reboot the NET icon (netapplet) shows that there is no internet connection ... true there is not.
(EDIT .....  wired connection to router)

Yes three clicks of the mouse and it is connected again so no real difficulty.

The strange thing is that this connection has been working as one would expect for some time, so it is either something I did or an update that caused this strange behaviour.

I have tried deleting the connection ans recreating it, but no change.

This is not in any way a priority, just more wondering if anyone has seen this exact behaviour on their PC?

It is so simple to fix that it may well be regarded an advantage ..... the connection is dead until fully connected so there is nothing possibly going out during boot.

So, just wondering if anyone else has had this happen ........

Not yet with my wireless.  It connects automagically and I don't use a wired connection.

One click on the NetApplet icon in the tray brings up Network Centre
One click to expand the connection
One click on the Connect button ...... and it is up in maybe three or four seconds.  :D
A fourth click closes Network Centre.

It is not important enough to change NIC cards or any other hardware.
It functions fine .....  just not connected at boot up, despite the setting being selected during creation of the connection.

No need to spend time over it .......  I was really just wondering if any one else had seen this or if it is peculiar to my setup.

regards.

Yes, my computer has been doing a very similar thing during the full 2009 period.

now with 2020, I still can't connect automatically after boot.
I have, every ... time again to click connect and fill in my password

This is one of those simple suggestions where, if it doesn't work, I'll look stupid for even suggesting it. ("YES, I did that. My internet still doesn't work. Stop cluttering up the forum.") Still...into the fire! (heroic music)

When you removed and re-established your network connection, did you check the Start Connection at Boot box? It's easy to overlook because it's in the Advanced tab, which you have to scroll down to.
Fair warning: I am a whiny, selfish brat who should be denied access to 2010, per a moderator. Box: Acer Aspire One 110-xxxx model. XP wiped (and flushed), 2010 gnome (despite mod) grafted onto 8g flash HD via livecd.

If this was meant for me then yes I tried turning off that option and put it back on again. No difference.
BTW ....  it is not under an Advanced list presently   ;)

No doubt it is something I should have mentioned so you would not have had to post ...  so mea culpa  ;)

I did notice that there is Traffic Accounting, selected by default, but have no idea what that does or if it could effect anything, or indeed even how long it has existed. I never noticed it previously   ;D

Thanks.
