mylivecd ..... does everything except produce an iso! SOLVED
« on: April 26, 2010, 09:42:08 AM »
In a root terminal, I did this:

[root@localhost john]# mylivecd --lzma --md5sum /home/jrc2010.iso
Subroutine run_program::formatError redefined at /usr/lib/libDrakX/common.pm line 8

So what did I do wrong please, anyone?
(I also tried without the 'iso' suffix, and without '/home' and the like!)

Try it without the /home  - like this:

mylivecd --lzma --md5sum jrc2010.iso
PCLinuxOS 32bit KDE 4.10.1; kernel-3.4.11-pclos1.bfs & 64bit 3.2.18bfs; NVidia GeForce 8400GS 1GB 310.19 driver

I think I did, but I shall make sure by doing it again and then report back. Thanks.

Hi Menotu,
Same again.
Could the problem be related to the error mentioned in line 2  " .......common.pm line 8" ?

TY,
j

It looks as if it's running out of space when creating the compressed image. You may need to specify locations for your working and temp directories on partitions with plenty of room.

Back again!!!

There's 116Gb on the home partition, and I'm using the fully updated 2010 version.

What is the significance of that error?

j

More info:
It's producing a folder in //home/tmp called "mylivecd.1229" (or .7584, or similar depending which one I look at) each time I try.
The folders contain folders called: initrd.dir, initrd.mnt, livecd, and files called: excludes.list, sort_iso.list and sort.list.
the livecd folder contains boot and isolinux folders and livecd.sqfs. the latter is 10.3Gb  - I don't know why, but there is still plenty of space.

Do you have sufficient space on the / partition for the temp and working directories and their contents?
It might be worthwhile to point them to somewhere in the  /home  partition.

Ok what is happening is your  / and /home partition when compressed is exceeding the maximum limit of a squashfs file. The maximum file size is about 4 gigs. For example the standard KDE install of 2010 is about 2.5 gig. When I run mylivecd --lzma --md5sum pclinuxos-2010.iso it compresses  / and /home  (2.5 gig)  to a 700 mb iso. I suspect you probably can get between 8-10 gigs install depending on what is being compress into a 4 gig DVD iso image. You are not going to be able to compress 15-20 gig into a 4 gig iso. Hope this helps.

Thanks to everyone who donates. You keep the servers running.

Yes, that makes sense..... my problem then becomes: Why is it that big? - the only thing I've added is Ooo and a few wallpapers.
The .sqfs file is 10.3Gb.... Oooopppsss!!!!!
I suspect I'm heading towards a total re-install - what do you reckon?  I haven't put the PASS file in yet for the repo, but I suspect that wouldn't have any effect?

Do    df   in a terminal and post back the result, to show the usage.

df gives this:

[john@localhost ~]$ df
Filesystem            Size  Used Avail Use% Mounted on
/dev/sda2              97G   36G   56G  39% /
/dev/sda6             128G   12G  117G   9% /home
tmpfs                 1.7G   12K  1.7G   1% /dev/shm
/dev/sda1             235G   19G  216G   9% /media/disk
[john@localhost ~]$

To my untutored eye this seems OK....?

What do you have in  your /root that is taking up 36Gigs? PCLOS uses 2-3 gigs, so there has to be a lot of data that should not be there.

Try emptying your tmp and your trash bin to see if that frees up some space.

Do you a swap partition?

task-gnome was installed, but I still can't think why it would be 36G.  Maybe run bleachbit on it?

Are there any "old"  ISO's that you tried to create earlier still lurking around? If so you may want to delete them.
