Logitech V20 Speakers / PCLinuxOS 2010
« on: April 26, 2010, 07:09:39 AM »
I can't get pclos to set my usb speakers as the default sound.
When I first loaded up pclos it sort of got them to work, but then when I restarted, it said they couldn't be used because either they were unplugged or the right driver was not installed.
Does anyone know what driver I have to use to get these speakers to work?

Thank you in advanced!

In a terminal type "lspci" and paste back what came up please.

Try this,

Open Configure Your Desktop, select Computer Administration, select Multimedia.  Are your USB speakers shown as an output device?  If so, set the preference from there and reboot.  You could also try PulseAudio, but I've experienced problems with some my systems. 4 out of 5 work with PulseAudio at present.

OK I got the speakers to work for most things by making them the prefered audio device.
However my computer seems to still use the internal speakers when browsing the internet...
How can I set my browser plugins / firefox itself to use usb speakers by default?

Did you install PulseAudio?  That's the only way I've been able to get my USB speakers too work with Firefox.

Hmmm, well I'm pretty sure Pulse Audio is installed already because it is one of the options to make preferable under sound preferences.
However I have not tried to use it because I was told it was a little unstable.... but I will try that tonight.

If more than Pulse is showing on the Multimedia list then Pulse is not fully installed ......  you need some more packages.
That is my experience here.

Make sure you have
padevchooser
pavucontrol
installed as well as other Pulse packages .....  alsa and such

When installed everything is done using Pulse, and controlled by the pavucontrol (Vol Control) and Device Chooser

Pulse when installed fully & correctly is a revelation!

You can send the sound from different apps to different speakers/headsets and completely control all the audio stream routing.

regards.
