Mutex region SOLVED

I am trying to install some software with Synaptic and have a problem.
It asks me to resize mutex region
What's happening here

I think it is related to memory but have no real idea.

What software are you trying to install?
What are the specs of the PC?

The PC is an AMD1.8ghz with 1gig memory and ATI 128 meg video card.

I would try as root from a terminal

rpm --rebuilddb

and wait for the prompt to return.  It could take some time.

As for the database usage, I run Xastir which is an Amateur Radio APRS program and it accesses online topographic maps
so I guess that would be a large database, all Canada.
