Synaptics PM won't launch

Just installed 2010 (reluctantly, rather than 2009x - another thread)  on to my netbook.

Naturally I want to install more apps but, although the SNP icon is on the panel and in the menu, it won't launch.  Normally I would expect a demand for the root password and then launch.  It is accessible if I logout and then login as root.

Is this a new "feature" and are they only offered to the user as a tease?

open a konsole and type synaptic, what's the messages in the konsole?

When I do that the prompt for root password comes up and SPM launches (as it should).

The output in Konsole is

You might try restarting your computer.

Restarted as suggested and seems OK now.  Is that because of running the Konsole command or just because...?

Go to your first post and click modify and add [SOLVED] to the subject line.  That should take care of it.
