Modprobe and binfnt Errors: Won't Boot <Remaster Problem>
« on: April 19, 2010, 06:02:01 PM »
Twice I have made a remaster of my 2010 MiniMe and burned to DVD using K3b. No indication of a bad job but neither DVD will finish boot in regular or safe mode. I have never had problems like this before and have used many PCLOS live DVDs on this computer.

It gets as far as:
Quote
Modprobe : Fatal Error error running install command for binfnt-0000
This repeats maybe 20 times then I get
Quote
udeved - work [790] exc of program '/sbin/pam.console-apply' failed

Edit: Burned at 4X. Same burner and same brand DVD media that worked for burning the original 2010 MiniMe ISO. Used in the same drive that made it.

At boot try F6 Safe settings and menu item Safe boot. If that is working you can install ;) You can also try F6 Safe settings with one of the other menu options.

It may be worth testing the ISO (without burning it to DVD) in Virtualbox and see if that works.

Those settings didnot work on either of the two disks I made. Install froze at "unmounting ipcs file systems. Ran a media check and am getting: "Unable to find disk check sum....". Shouldn't K3B be adding that?

Good idea. I'll install VB and let you know.
Thanks all for the replies.

OK tried in VB and get the same errors. I am going to try again to make a live CD and see if three times is the charm.

Did you check the MD5 sum? Is the ISO okay that you're burning from? If you get that error in VB from the ISO file, chances are the ISO file, itself, is bad.

Excelent point except I have now made three diferent Remaster ISOs and burned them and none worked either in safe mode or regular mode.  They did not work in VB loading straight from the ISO or burning the ISO to DVD and starting from the DVD.

Latest attempt when running the DVD result in errors such as "invalid ELF headers" and inittab id field too long for 1-9 and init id field 10 is missing action field. Then dumps me to "Enter Run Level.

Yes checksum may be a problem Media check said it was missing from the first two ISOs so why is it missing?  I am runing the comand "mylivecd".

Yes, but what I'm saying is you could have some packet dropping in your internet connection or something. There's no reason an ISO shouldn't work in VB. Something sounds wrong with the files themselves.

We seem to be misscomunicating. I am doing a remaster. No internet involved. Sorry I didn't make myself clear. From my original post:

Drat!!

Just curious, what command are you using to do the remaster ?

Also, what size "swap" do you have on your setup?

Been having the same issue burning in K3b, i had to give up, now i have to use winders for burning and they turn out good, doesn't help with your remaster though.Sorry.

Comand I am using is just the basic, "mylivecd". Not sure of the swap size bur its a large drive and I have 12 gigs set just for temp. The remaster is being made successfully according to the message at the end. I am not using the computer while it is being made.
