(downgrade) skype
« on: April 25, 2010, 01:16:38 PM »
Can the reaper gang make available  'skype-2.1.0.47-2pclos2009.i586' for 2010 release as video is not available for me in 'skype_static 2.1.0.81-1pclos2010'. It is reported that few other persons also are having problems with 'skype_static 2.1.0.81-1pclos2010'

My HP webcam is working in  cheese 2.30.0-1pclos2010 on PCLinuxOS 2010-KDE  !!!
It is not working in wxcam 1.0.4-1 pclos 2010 and skype_static 2.1.0.81-1pclos2010.
The webcam is working satisfactorily on other partition having PCLinux2009.2KDE4.3.4 and
skype-2.1.0.47-2pclos2009.i586,hence the request.

With regards.

Skype-static is running fine on my current 2010 install.

I've had to add the following command (LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libv4l/v4l1compat.so /usr/bin/skype) to get the video to look right, and added a file called client.conf to the .pulse directory in home that contains only autospawn = no.  Other than that, it's great!!

Of what use be there for joy, if not for the sharing thereof?

reaper gang!  ROFL!  I like that.

Skype static working fine here, except for the microphone, which I haven't really worked on to hard, but O-P says he can see my ugly mug on the video.

I am using 2.1.0.47 non-static version of Skype and all is well.
It did not even object when I switched to Pulse audio ......  in fact I think it even better.

Maybe the OP would care to try that one?

There is a problem with wxcam .......  not sure but it seems related to res & fps and how the config file is saved ...  did not pay it much heed .....

I have Logitech Pro webcam too, and I start it from a konsole (terminal, command line, whatever) with LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libv4l/v4l1compat.so /usr/bin/skype

Works dandy for me.   ;D

skype-static 2.1.0.81-1pclos2010 works perfectly here, and so did all previous versions of skype that I've tried.

(Except that many months ago I had to uninstall Pulse Audio to get sound working. Of course 2010 doesn't come with Pulse Audio by default, but I've installed it, and now skype works beautifully with it.)

I have a Logitech C500 webcam and it works well with skype out of the box -- I haven't had to do anything to set it up.

The same on my msi ms-163k taptop.  Sound is crystal clear, webcam works fine.

Tried every option under sound devices>microphone, all eleven options, but no mic...

Added: an yes, the mic is not muted in kmix.

Hello,
        I tried LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libv4l/v4l1compat.so /usr/bin/skypeand my webcam worked. ;D
ButI noticed this error running continuously  in the console window.

libv4lconvert: Error decompressing JPEG: unknown huffman code: 0000ffff
libv4lconvert: Error decompressing JPEG: unknown huffman code: 0000ffff
libv4lconvert: Error decompressing JPEG: unknown huffman code: 0000ffff

libv4lconvert: Error decompressing JPEG: unknown huffman code: 0000ffff
libv4lconvert: Error decompressing JPEG: unknown huffman code: 0000ffff

When I stop the video test it halts the above scrolling in the console and ends with:
X Error, request 42, minor 0, error code 8 BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes)

I can manage to start Skype from the command line, but young and elderly relatives need to be able to just start Skype in the normal way.
Thanks.
