(Getting there) 2010 Final: many kde apps missing help pages
« on: April 24, 2010, 06:26:30 PM »

Some of the system-wide ones are present. John on irc mentioned space issues on the iso as a reason for not including among other things.

Don't see any packages to adjust. Not a problem for me, but makes it hard to recommend to newbies that'll press help and expect something to be there in kde apps ;)

Is there a package to download to reinstate the help files?

Maybe someone who knows scripting if they get really bored can write a "taskHelp" script that will install help files on installed programs.... if that is even possible. Till then as stated elsewhere reinstalling usually brings in the help files.

I understand the need to limit the size on the installation media, and I actually like the effort to keep it small. BTW I too think a package with the missing documentation would find its place in the repositories.

TIA

Update posted sometime in the last few days is a hit.

Build search index yields: Document 'kde_application_manuals' (Application Manuals):
'/usr/bin/htdig' not found, install the package containing it

Maybe something here will help?

And maybe this?

I think it's to re-install kdebase4

And here?

That's all I could find easily.  Hope it helps.

Good Luck.

what you will find is that during the creation of the release all docs and man pages are deleted by default to free alot of space on the livecd ... it is easy to get your applications help documentation by reinstalling the app ;)

It is indeed easy to get missing man pages that way, and I've reinstalled scores of apps. (It might be even easier if one could download a list of the emasculated packages. Then one wouldn't have to guess whether a reinstall will really help....)

But when it comes to the help files proper, it seems that in many cases KDE4 versions simply don't exist yet.
