How can I get version 2009
« on: April 24, 2010, 05:14:18 PM »
I have version 2007 installed on my Thinkpad but synaptic fails on most install/updates due to a "404 not found".

I tried version 2010 and it just hangs up during the login.

So . . . Is it possible to get a copy of 2009?  If so, where?

2009 repositories aren't going to be any better.

Which version of 2010 did you try?  I would suggest trying another 2010 version (lxde,xfce,e17,gnome) and if you can get past the login you can then search synaptic for task-(desktop of your choice) and install that and see if the problem persists.  (Don't know for sure if that will work, but it's what I would do.)

wizrider,

I just installed Minime 2010 this week on a Thinkpad R51. A very easy install.
Be sure to start with a usable (slow burn) Live-CD (do a media check).
I previously had a 2009.2 full install KDE... and a lot of apps that I didn't really need.
Minime just seems to fly on this laptop.
Once installed, you can do a Repository Speed Check and select from the quickest mirrors.
It goes without saying that you should back up your data before forging ahead.

Good luck.

Thank you to all who responded.  The 2010 Gnome version installed properly.  Although I prefer the look of KDE, this will do.

You should be able to install task-kde now and choose it in the sessions menu before you log in. Hopefully that will work for you.   ;)
