PCMan/Thunar problem in LXDE
« on: April 23, 2010, 11:51:15 PM »
Hi all,

I'm running PCLOS 2010 LXDE.  In both of these file managers, when I set the view to Detailed List, I cannot navigate down to more than 2 directories.  So, if I start at / and navigate to /home/myuser/ then I cannot go further into any other directories.  When I click on the directories, nothing happens.  If I change the view from Detailed to List or whatever, then I can navigate again.  I believe that this is a bug, but am not sure where to report it, sorry.

Yes your in the correct area of the forums.

I have been able to duplicate your problem.......... I think.

Using pcmanfm I clicked on "detailed mode"
The first time is let me open a third folder under /home/username/video but since the folder is empty I backed out of it.  to /home/username and I could not open anything.

I went all the way back to /  and I could not open anything.  So yes there seems to be a problem.

I'll pass this on to Neal.

This is a known bug in PCManFM. The upcoming new version of PCManFM should not have it. I hope it won't, anyway.

Me neither, I tried to use it after PCMan gave me that problem and I was surprised to find the same problem in Thunar.  Installed Nautilus from the repo, it doesn't have the same problem, but I couldn't get it to show up in the LXDE menu, despite googling, reading, and tweaking for 2 hours.  I'll try again later today and see if I can make it work.

Add nautilus to your menu -->
Open lxdecc, click on the System tab, click on the File Manager Superuser Mode icon, give root password and navigate to /usr/share/applications. Look for nautilus' .desktop file. Open it and look for a line that says, OnlyShowIn=Gnome;. It may or may not be there. If it is, add LXDE; to the end of the line. Thus > OnlyShowIn=Gnome;LXDE; < is how it will appear. Note that the word Only may not be there; it may be ShowIn=.
If the line isn't in the file, simply add ShowIn=LXDE; at the end of the file. Click File > Save and close the editor. Close the file manager.

i use Thunar on Phoenix and do not have this issue at all .... i think this is more related to LXDE than the file manager ....

i will load up LXDE and see if we can find some causes

Kori

Thanks, Kori.
The same issue appears to be in e17. I believe this is a PCManFM bug, but if you can find a fix or some info leading to a fix, that would be great.

Hi. I'm having the same problem with PCMan on PCLinuxOS LXDE 2010. It didn't appear immediately following installation and it appears to be intermittent. I have installed Nautilus and I can launch it from the console but I can't find it in the /usr/share/applications listed in lxdecc. The view is set to show hidden files and I have rebooted.

Incidentally, Thunar appears in the /usr/share/applications listed in lxdecc but not in my LXDE menu

Nautilus is called File Manager in /usr/share/applications. Thunar is, too.

Thanks for that, Neal. I hadn't realised (been using Linux for a while but still a greenhorn).

That's okay, Wonder Warthog. We all questions come up sometimes. No one person can know everything.
