I have the same problem.  Don't be discouraged by people who don't have the problem.  We have it - see also here.

Having said that - for me it is not a PCLinuxOS only problem - I had it before with a Debian based distro as well.  Unmounting before shut down is not an option since there are other, non root users on this PC as well.

Keep us updated how it went with you...

OK, since I reinstalled my server (CentOS 5.5 64 bit this time), I created the samba shares through the Mandriva Control Center. The very same problem happened. If I don't unmount the shares before shutting down, the system hangs for about 6 minutes. Fells like forever.
