Au files

I have a folder in my home folder that has a bunch of .au files in it.  Trying to figure out what they are, where they came from, and what to do with them...

my old sonyericsson T226 recorded audio on this format

if you want to convert this files audacity can, if not maybe vlc can do it, convert this mono audio recordings to mp3 or wav
