I used to like being able to use PCLOS 2007 to rescue data from friends machines. I could load the CD completely into ram (provided they had a Gig or so), and eject the disc, leaving the drive free for me to burn off their files that needed saving. But the later versions no longer seemed to allow. No amount of button-pushing would make it spit it out.
Just downloaded most of the 2010 ISO's to try and while booting up the LXDE one, was paying attention after telling it to load into RAM (home sick today, so bored) and noticed a message about "could not eject /initrd/cdrom" or words to that effect. Forget if was exact error, but close. So once was booted to desktop, opened a terminal, su'd to root, and ran "umount /initrd/cdrom", which actually worked. I pressed the eject button after this and spat the disc out like I asked. Lovely. And before you ask, yes, I had tried repeatedly to get itm to eject before trying this, just skipped typing that. But anyway, switch to root and run this smple line, and your cd/dvd drive is yours once again.
