Failed to upgrade 4/2010
« on: April 22, 2010, 08:50:05 PM »
I ran synaptic, reload, markupdates, and nothing is available to apply.
Ran to the forum, read texstars comments about updating and nothing comes up to apply.
Tried the package repair tool, much output, it requested me to run synaptic, reloaded, markupdates and still nothing to apply.

Thanks in advance,
Hugh

Based on this description, it sounds like your system is up to date. But you should have had a few updates after the install. Do you know what repository you are using?

Welcome to the forum by the way  ;)

hughc:

Most important; what are you actually running? Give us the name of the image you installed.

you are running an old version of pclinuxos and the repositories that version uses are no longer maintained.

any reason why you are using an old version?

you can get new versions from here: http://pclinuxos.com/?page_id=10

That's the point.  I am running an old version.   The new version is released and when upgrading stuff fails.
Are you suggesting reinstalling PCLinux?
Won't that remove all the customizations?  That's why I tried to upgrade.

A reinstallation of pclinuxos2010 is required from the version of pclinuxos you have.

the repository your version of pclinuxos uses and the 2010 are different and not compatible. You can not upgrade to pclinuxos2010 from the version you have. You will have to install pclinuxos2010 by downloading it from links i gave above.

Your personal customizations will survive re installation if you have your home folder in a different partition. DO NOT FORMAT this partition when you install if you reinstall pclinuxos2010.

Thanks again,

I'll download the cd and install.  And move home to another partition.

Thanks again,

I'll download the cd and install.  And move home to another partition.

If you are still running KDE3, don't use the same user name, just the same UID, or rename the old /home/<you> directory. The KDE3 configs won't cross over, and you'll end up with a mess. With a new user home you'll have the correct KDE4 default configuration files, and you can then move things like the .mozilla directory from the old to the new, to keep bookmarks and such.

can you be more specific what "help" you are talking about? the forum is the only forum for support questions.
